Hello, we have an HP 3PAR 7200 with 38 fc 600gb disk and 12 nl 1tb disk (all SFF).
The 3PAR managment console show 4 cages (cage0,cage1,cage2 and cage3). Our cpg are r5 (3+1,cage ha) for fc and r6 (4+2, ha cage) for nl.
I read this topic (viewtopic.php?f=18&t=786) and Schmoog states: "theres nothing that says drive types must be evenly distributed among cages".
This system have:
cage0: 10fc disk and 4 nl disk. Total 14 disk.
cage1: 10fc disk and 2 nl disk. Total 12 disk.
cage2: 8fc disk and 4 nl disk. Total 12 disk.
cage3: 10fc disk and 2 nl disk. Total 12 disk.
I see allocated percentage is 43% for cage2 fc disks and 35% for other fc disks.
I'm looking for alternatives, I don't know what happens when cage2 fc disk fill.
-disable cage ha? for use all capacity of 38disk
-buy two fc disk for cage2?
Thank you

Re: 3par 7200 system and 38 sas disk
I would try and keep the number of drives balanced across cages, at least that is the best practice on the 7000 series.
The Service manual from HP states "The same number of disk drives and type should be added to all of the drive enclosures in the system." This is from P95 of the manual http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdi ... 6625-9.pdf

The best practice is for all cages to have the same number of drives. Given that youre only two drives off, I would buy the 2 drives

Thank you all, we are trying to buy two drives
If we will allocate vv from cpg fc (10,10,8,10 600GB disks, ha-cage enabled), I understand that when 8disk in cage2 get out of space, can we use all cpg space with ha-cage?
