I have had a 7200 and a 7400 for approx. a year now and very satisfied - it performs so much better than our previous netapp (witch is crap).
I have added some new disks to existing shelf’s on both 7200 (NL disks) and 7400 (FC/SSD disks) - but it seems like my CGP's have not taken them in use yet..
Here is the steps I've taken:
added all the disks to the shelf's
I have activated the license on HP portal
And submitted the certificate it into IMC - so far so good.
From Here I was expecting the disk to be in use and that my 3PAR would start re-organize the data. as far as I remember this was what did happen last time I added new disks to the 3PAR.
To simplify Things I’m debugging on my 7200 as it only have 1 Tier of NL disks.
Before I had 24 3Tb disks and now I have added 12 more and 12 additional on my way - so total of 48 3Tb disks. At pressent there are a total of 36 Disks mounted and a total of aprox 98 Tb raw disk Space.
CPG_NL_R6 have a disk filter like this: -p -devtype NL
If I modify the CGP all disks (both old and new shows up in the disk view)
BUT the new disk show a status like "NEW" while the old have a status as "Normal"
This seems odd to me. If I take a look at allocated/Free Space on my CPG - I can see that these numbers have not changed since I added the disks - all my old disk are still at a usage at 94%.
I tried to run a TuneSys and a Compact CPG to see if that did any change - but no change detected.
I have attached a Picture of some views of interest
Is there a secret command to use to get my 3PAR to actually use my new disks?
Newly added disks shows as NEW instead of NORMAL

Re: Newly added disks shows as NEW instead of NORMAL
Have you logged into the Controller node and issued an "admithw" command? This will tell the controller to go search/use for new hardware and then it will upgrade those drives to the current/latest firmware on the 3PAR.
From there and after those drives are admitted, run the tunesys to force DO to balance the load across your nodes.
Try that and respond back to us if you will to let us know that it works.

admithw did the trick - Thanks
