When HP built our 3PAR they configured our controller for 00(A) and our first unit for 02(B) and our second for 01(A). Is it possible to renumber these? Whenever I do so by the button on the bezel it automatically reverts back after a minute or so.
I don't like the ordering because 00 is at the bottom with 02, 01 in an upward manner. If we add a new cage I don't want 03 to be on top of 01.
This is a new SAN so I'm not worried about losing data.
Thanks!!
Is it possible to change the cage ID?

Cage ID are for reference only... Ie if you have an error on cage 2, you know which one it is.
The cages are also assigned automatically, there is no reason to change the numbers...

Yeah, I have a similar issue with one of my T systems... I *assume* the cage IDs are more that just cosmetic, and I don't recommend messing with it.
It bugs me, so does this picture. But it doesn't bug me as much as an outage would.

Hi, indeed cage numbers are for reference only.
They are assigned to a cage at the moment of birth, and cannot be changed afterwards.
Especially with daisy chained cages this may give a strange physical order.
If a cage ever needs to be replaced, the new cage will not assume the old cage number.
But it will get the next free cage-ID (just as with disks)

Re: Is it possible to change the cage ID?
Thank you very much for your responses. If this was just a problem with my order being 00-02-01 then I would probably live with it but now we are ordering two new cages and it would irritate me to no end (well maybe mildly infuriating) to see 00-02-01-03-04.
I did take your advice and decided to not pursue changing the cage ID so I simply physically re-ordered the cages in the rack and changed my A-B-A-B stickers on the back.
Thanks again!
