That "alarm" button

Hey guys,
This sounds kind of dumb, but....
On the 7200, there is a button on the top left corner of the front of the controller enclosure. It has an icon featuring a speaker with a cross through it. It's the same icon you see associated with "turn off alarm" buttons on UPSs and similar.
We had a hardware failure and naturally I started to hear the alarm. While waiting for replacement parts, I pressed the button to silence it. Nope.
I ended up logging an HP support case, and after an escalation, Tier 2 support confirmed the button is not intended to silence alarms. They could not advise what it was for however.
Has anyone else got experience with this?
