Cable/Transciever/DAC to direct/flat SAN attach VC/c7000

Post by jimto »

Searched everywhere and trough all relevant cookbooks/guides but no specific information found.

Which DAC/FC cables/transceivers are needed/recommended (4GB/8GB/16GB)?

Thanks

A White paper from HP exist: http://tinyurl.com/p8s5kff

Implementing HP Virtual Connect Direct-Attach Fibre Channel with HP 3PAR StoreServ Systems

For "normal" setup (not long distance) FC cable needs to be LC-LC Multimode 50/125u minimum OM3 in quality. You can buy original HP cable at premium price. We ended up buying OM4 cables from another vendor saving a fortune.

I would never buy other than original HP SFP Transcievers though mainly because of potential issues with warranty. (HP don't produce their SFPs but buy from different vendors)

You can look at the VC quickspecs to find the partnumbers

I would also recommend Reading the HP San reference guide http://tinyurl.com/qh8vpjm

Dear skumflum,

Thanks a lot for the proper info.

Starting with the flex fabric quickspecs (spock is refering back to them regarding SFPs)
i finally decided to go with:
AJ716B HP 8Gb Shortwave B-series Fibre Channel 1 Pack SFP+ Transceiver and
QK734A HP Premier Flex LC/LC Multi-mode OM4 2 fiber 5m Cable

Best regards
