Testing connection to IMC

Trying to get connection from my management server to our F400. I've had it working for weeks and each time I opened the IMC there was my IP address ready to log into......go off for a week and came back to .........nothing! I enter the IP and user details and get a window telling me "Unable to connect", I find out some "firewall work" had been carried out and after much ado the network guys convince me there's no blocker on the address. I can ping the interface and I have been told by the server admins that the SAN disks are still online.
Anyone know if it's possible to check connectivity by some other means? I've tried using the unsecured port number in place of the secured port value but no luck. Service Processor access is fine but I can't see any way of checking if there's an issue at the controller end.
The array is 200 miles away and there's no admins at that end.
Hopefully I don't need to restart the controllers.
