3.2.2/SP4.4 to 3.3.1/SP5.x Upgrade

Post by geddy01 »

Hello all.

I'm working on a plan to upgrade our 8400 to OS version 3.3.1. I was reading the release notes for version 5.x of the service processor. Is it true that an HPE field engineer really needs to come out and do the installation themselves or is this something that we can do ourselves? I was thinking maybe I was looking at outdated information.

Thanks.

The Upgrade is remote done and for free if the System have active maintenance.

I have Update multiple Systems by myself, but it is not easy doing.
You should have good knowledge and Update experience.

Unfortunately we are a dark site to HPE, so they can't do the installation remotely. That's why I was asking if they really need to send someone on-site.

you can do it yourself the internet is full of guides and step by step how to upgarde also the sp will always stage and check the required patches and version checks before proceeding with the update so don't worry if the version is not the good one it won't pass.

I thought it was strange that my support contract would allow me to downloaded, but they didn't want me to install it myself. Seemed strange.

even if you are a dark site, HPE will use a team viewer like software to remote into your environment, we recently went through the same process

I haven't seen any "DIY" documents on how to go from 3.2.2 to 3.3.1. I have done 50+ of the upgrades from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2, but the 3.3.1 upgrade is a bit more complex (I've had HPE do 2) and I haven't been able to reverse engineer the process yet. Any links to said upgrade steps?

The two documents I've looked at so far are:

OS and SP update guide 3.3.1/5.x
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public ... 40316en_us

Release notes for SP 4.4/4.5 to 5.0.3.1
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public ... 47963en_us

There's an indication in here that you're supposed to have HPE do the update directly.

Hello , i've done it myself without any trouble... you need to be used with llnux since when you'll update from sp4.5 to 5.0 you'll need to do it from sp ssh console and ofcourse you'll need the ssh passwords also.

good luck for everyone.
