created VVOl and exported to a Hosts set twice

Post by Don Pobre »

I'm new in 3 PAR and need help or advice on deleting a LUN on a hosts sets.

I made a mistake on exporting the VVol to the same hosts set twice and on the VLUN panel it shows the same HOSTS SETs name and Vrtual Volume Sets name twice but differnet LUN number LUN 0 and LUN 8. ( see attached)

My questions if I delete LUN 8 , note it is show that the LUNs are ACTIVE, I know we can remove LUN 8 BUT NOT SURE if LUN 0 will be affected, don't know what to expect.

Can anybody help me on this. Thank you.

Disclaimer, I recommend you call 3PAR support and get their assistance in fixing this, and also perform their recommended actions during a time when its safe to take an outage.

If you choose to disregard that advice, deleting only LUN 8's template should result in ONLY LUN 8 being removed.

Of concern is that is what might happen if your system(s) try to use LUN8... are they smart enough to recognize the drive has a signature already mounted elsewhere? Is there a SCSI2/3 lock on LUN0 that is keeping LUN8 safe? Or is the system dumb enough to try/allow LUN 8 to be formated as a new datastore?

On a different note, what sort of backup do you have set up there? Looks like you have an VTL appliance mapped directly to the live LUNs.

Thank you for your reply.

Called 3PAR and advised us to remove LUN 8 , it may give warning errors on VM .
With regards to the VTL backup were using the hosts as PROXY servers.

Will keep you posted after removing the LUN8.
