DNS on 3par

This may sound like a daft question, but what does the 3par actually need DNS for?
As surely hosts that's are added are all iSCSI names or WWN's
the only thing i could see is you can use the DBS name for 3par, so in the GUI you can connect using the DNS name and not just the IP.

At a guess, resolving the ntp server? These should always be configured by name.

The NTP accepts only IP.
Even if the DNS is set, the array does not register itself.
IMO, the DNS is useless.
Maybe LDAP ?

I didn't realise that. That's actually against the design of NTP. Something like 0.oceania.pool.ntp.org is, as the name implies, a pool of load balancing servers, and is preferable to a hard set IP.

Most sites will use an internal time source, not a stratum 0/1 pool.
