There have been some great resources posted. The short answer is that "CPG" is a kind of virtual array. It's different from your traditional RAID5 array in that, for example, if you added disks, you wouldn't (usually) create a new CPG, you'd just let the CPG expand across it.

It's also a bit further "virtualised" because you can create a volume here, and watch it move to another CPG with adaptive optimisation.
