Host Explorer, is a non-interactive agent on the host that communicates with the SES-Lun (255?) in-band over the SCSI bus to give the Inserv details about the host. There is nothing host side to use or view. In the IMC, you can view host information, there is a tab in the hosts view for "Host Explorer". Its not required for SAN functionality, in fact, it's value is limited in my opinion... especially in mixed environments where there is no host explorer available for half your hosts (Windows Itanium, IBM Aix for examples). I believe its original intent was to make site surveys for online upgrades easier, by gathering requested details about the attached hosts for you like OS, patch, cluster version, etc... however, in practice, you still end up using other means to gather HBA firmware/driver versions per host.

I hope to see the host explorer improved someday to gather all the information needed that is asked for by the upgrade team, AND also add functionality to it to report file system usage information to the inserv and perform automatic thin reclamations as needed.

You can use the CLI and scripting to add hosts in bulk. Its still "one at a time", one per command, but you can script it all out in a spread sheet if you have the hostnames and wwns, then cut and past several lines at a time into the console or cli if you have it installed.
