Improving alert handling/distribution coming out of my 7400

Post by kwalters »

I would like to find a way to get alerts on my 3PAR out to the right people in my organization. Currently all alerts worthy of getting out of the box go to single email distribution list configured via the SP interface - kind of hard for the folks getting this to sort out. I would like to have much more granular control over what events trigger an alert and to what staff these alerts get sent. For example, I would like remote copy network link related events to go to the networking team, but the networking team does not need to get volume allocation alerts, etc. Is there the equivalent to a syslog service in the 3PAR so that I can redirect all alerts to an external device that can sort all this out and alert in a much more detailed manner? Can this be done with SNMP somehow? What have some of you all done to address this problem?

Some of this can be done via the Notify function in the SP, but it is very crude and has limitations.

As far as i know you can setup the 3par to log all events to an external syslog server. from there you could filter and act upon as you like i guess.
The goal is to achieve the best results by following the clients wishes. If they want to have a house build upside down standing on its chimney, it's up to you to figure out how do it, while still making it usable.
