Inform Management Console 4.1.0 released

Post by Richard Siemers »

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - 08/03/10) - 3PAR® (NYSE:PAR - News), the leading global provider of utility storage, announced today the availability of the newest 3PAR InForm® Management Console, which simplifies remote replication configuration and administration, and which provides superior usability in administering all models of the 3PAR InServ® Storage Server. Designed to deliver greater simplicity, usability, and visibility, the improved InForm Management Console gives 3PAR Utility Storage customers autonomic configuration of disaster recovery and the ability to administer all connected InServ arrays from a single management window, including systems used for remote replication.

"3PAR is known for its leadership in simplifying storage administration," said Noemi Greyzdorf, Research Manager at IDC. "The InForm Management Console extends this leadership by offering ease of use and advanced capabilities such as autonomic disaster recovery configuration and 'three click,' multi-site remote replication setup."

Integration with 3PAR Remote Copy software provides autonomic configuration of disaster recovery, which enables users to set up remote replication with InServ T-Class, InServ F-Class, or a combination of 3PAR arrays from a single window -- quickly, simply, and without the need for professional services. This includes the ability to configure Synchronous Long Distance replication with complete distance flexibility, using mid-range as well as high-end arrays. Synchronous Long Distance replication was introduced by 3PAR to provide an affordable, multi-site alternative for achieving low Recovery Time Objectives and zero-data-loss Recovery Point Objectives.

"From the beginning, simplicity of administration was a major factor in our decision to deploy 3PAR Utility Storage," said Omer Siddqui, Deputy CIO at DC Water. "With the new InForm Management Console, 3PAR has leaped even further ahead, giving us the ability to manage our entire storage environment from a single window, including remote replication to our disaster recovery site."

In addition to expediting disaster recovery configuration, the new console was also designed to deliver enhanced usability and visibility. A single screen provides a dashboard view of all connected InServ arrays as well as graphical charts and tables representing important system data and remote replication configuration. The console is fully integrated with signature 3PAR applications including 3PAR Thin Provisioning, Virtual Copy, Dynamic Optimization, and Virtual Domains.

"Our track record of lowering storage costs and easing management are not just attractive to cloud service providers, but to large and mid-size enterprises," said David Scott, 3PAR President and CEO. "The redesigned InForm Management Console is an example of how 3PAR enables customers using our utility storage arrays for both internal and external services delivery to do more with less, and to reduce storage management by up to 90%."

The InForm Management Console is provided at no additional charge as part of the 3PAR InForm Operating System. 3PAR Remote Copy, Thin Provisioning, Virtual Copy, Dynamic Optimization, and Virtual Domains are optional 3PAR software products and are each sold separately. All products are available today.

I'm currently using version 4.1.1.5 (P01), so I think there is an update out there for you.

I run mine just fine on Windows 7, 64 bit.... its been awhile but I think my java is also 64 bit version.

HP just assimilated the 3PAR support, documentation and downloaded web sites... its not pretty, and it's not "right" yet either. You or someone at your company should have gotten an email with your SAID numbers in it, you need those to tie your HP passport ID to your support contracts... However, as I just learned, before you can enter the protected software downloads area, you also need a SAR or something called an AMP ID, I wasn't provided with either so am waiting on HP support to contact me back. Some software, like the AIX ODM definitions did not need that.

I was finaly able to navigate through all of HP's portals within portals, 7 layers of web-hell to gain access to the 3PAR downloads section... and there is a new IMC client version 4.2
