How to get space back after deletion of TPVVs

Post by crazy69 »

Hi,

I've just deleted some TPVVs but i don't get the chunklets back to create new volumes.
Is there any step I have to perform in beetween?
E.g. tunesys?

The hardware is a 8400.

compact cpg.

but if you create them in the same cpg as the old you don't really need to do that.

What MammaGutt said because:

There are several levels of "free space".

System wide free space is free chunklets not assigned to any CPG. This is probably what you are looking at.

However there are unused chunklets allocated to CPGa, and... unused chunklets can be allocated to volumes too. If you have many CPGs then running compactcpg would be needed to have one CPG return unused space back to the system so other CPGs can use it. If you use 1 CPG for everything, then you have one less reason to run CPG, and just need to consider looking at both metrics to under stand your free space.
