Does anyone know if Reporter is required to make AO function? The System Reporter manual makes it sound like AO is almost a sub-function (licensed separately of course). I ask because it looks like the reseller that sold us our 3PAR screwed up and didn't include System Reporter (it's currently running on a demo license) and I'm trying to get things straightened out with them. If Reporter is required for AO I need to take a firm hand.

TIA!

Hi Matt.

If your running 3.1.2 or newer version of Firmware, you do not need system reporter to create AO policies, it can all be done from inside the IMC.

AO license is required (standalone or via Optimization Suite).

But System Reporter is not.

The fact is since 3.1.2 and further version AO is included in the nodes.
There, with SSH or IMC, you define AO policies and schedules of the policies.
You can't do it anymore on system reporter.
But you can still store samples.

For a visual reference-

In 3.1.1 and before AO in System Reporter looked like this:

In 3.1.2 plus the same settings are exposed in the MC:

If you use SR and are 3.1.2 or higher there are certain reports that still require that you configure AO in SR, just leave it disabled. Some how SR seems to be dead on the vine and they are not keeping it up to date with changes made in the OS. We are extremely disappointed with the lack of improvement with SR and that it is essentially being abandoned for the IMC.

System Reporter isn't being abandoned in favor of IMC it's just in the middle of a transition with better things to come. Speak to your account team for an update, you'll see the start of some of these announcements beginning at Discover.

I have seen the future under NDA and as of now I have not seen anything concrete for SR. I have been briefed on what the intent is, but as with the IMC next gen I suspect it will be late as well, in the mean time the transition stage is a bumpy road. I'll say the same thing here I have said to my account team;

I love the 3par technology, BUT, HP has done a horrible job fixing their support which in my opinion is horrible!! Also 3par is still very much of the niche service provider mind set that they came from and needs a strong infusion of HP Enterprise thinking as some implementation decisions are not thought out well.

Then you haven't had the full briefing.

Not sure what they left out, but less than 6 weeks again I was shown everything that was being released int he coming months and saw nothing SR related. And when I asked specifically about SR I was told it was still being worked so to me that means for next 6-12 months SR is what we have. I was given a lot of "this is what we are planning" stuff, but since most has not been coded I take that very skeptically. Especially since they are running 6-12 months behind most of what they have been telling me the last 12 months.
