Hi,

I am new with 3PAR version 4.5. What I am searching for is how to configure an Array in 3PAR management console. Not sure if CPG is the same as Array? :?:

Yes. And no.

There's a lot of terminology and concepts associated with a 3PAR beyond what you may be used to from a smaller SAN.

I'm guessing your version refers to the management console? The 3PAR OS itself is still only at 3.1.3.

It sounds like you're deploying a new SAN - but HP's deployment team should take you through the configuration during the setup.

Hi Josh26,

The 3PAR Management Console version is 4.5. And yes, I am deploying a new HP 3PAR. Different from DS4000 FAST Storage Manager 9. I just got this HP 3PAR dropped on my lap. Using the HP 3PAR Mgmt Console User Guide (http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdi ... 5391-2.pdf).

Thanks for your response.

I can't understand how that could happen. You cannot legitimately buy these devices without an installation service.

I work at a Data Center were we maintain and manage other State Agencies Servers and SAN Storage systems. This one agency bought HP 3PAR and brought it in to our facility. Now, we have to figure out how to configure the Array, LUN, etc.

I understand the export volume, V.Volume, but what I am confuse is the Array configuration.

I am use to IBM Total Storage DS400 Manager 9; first time with HP 3PAR.

I agree this sounds like a big ask to do this with no prior experience. There are more manuals than the one you mention which may help you.

Specifically the 3Par concepts guide http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/h ... .492883150

and best practice guide http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.asp ... 524ENW.pdf

Hopefully this will give you some background on the system and a fighting chance

Good luck!

Can you tell me the steps to create a connectivity btw storage and client host in 3PAR Console?

Step 1 Virtual Volume first
Step 2 Host Name
Step 3 CPG
Set 4 Post
Set 5 Export Volume

I will appreciate whatever you can provide me.

Thanks

Step 0 : Zone host to storage ports. This is a complex discussion all by itself which you can find in previous posts.

Step 1 : Create host in IMC, add wwns (or iSCSI details if you roll that way)

Step 2 : Create Virtual Volume(s) from a CPG. (Make sure you understand thin provisioning)

Step 3 : Export a Virtual Volume to a Host. Pick a LUN# or let it auto assign one.

Step 4 : check the host, ensure multipath is round robin or ALUA and the lun is visible on all paths.

If all else fails i would atleast have a look at both Ingram Micros videos on 3par:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipIqAky4mo4

and 3par Junkie's:

https://www.youtube.com/user/HP3PARGROUP/videos

they give a introduction to some of the functions of the array

I have done the zoning portion on the fabric switch, which I understand it very will. Is the 3PAR config. SAN storage concepts are the same, just the configuration is different for Compellent, Hitach, HP 3PAR, etc.

Once again, I want to thank you for these good lectures. :)
