I currently have a new 7200 and it comes with 2 nodes (no 2.5in disks) and two shelves beneath it, with 48 drives total.

My question is, how do I need to create CPGs so that they are balanced across the nodes properly and the shelves correctly?

What set size am I looking for?...etc..

Thanks.

I am not a 7200 expert, but if you want shelf HA then your set can not be bigger than the number of shelves, so if you have drives in 4 shelves and 2 are on each controller than RAID 5 3+1 is best you can do.

These are going to be DEV stuff only, so going magazine availability I believe.

I have three shelves total though, and the one with the 2.5in disks that hold the controllers does not have drives in it.

I only have two shelves with drives in them.

I am not sure if MAG HA is even valid in a 7200, the concept of a mag does not exist, unless they do it logically, the back plane in the shelf is still a common point a failure. If this is DEV then you could make the set whatever you want then.

A mag is a single drive carrier in the 7200, E200, F200 etc.

You shouldn't *need* to do anything. In your setup, you might want to pick a set size that is evenly devisable into 48. For example raid 5 with a set size of 6.
