Hi,
I would have a couple of questions concerning the operation of a 3PAR 7200 with 12x 300gb 15k disks .
This is my first installation of a storage 3PAR I have previously installed a variety of EVA and MSA .
I have created a CPG group in RAID5 selecting all 12 disks configured in 5:1 ratio with avaibility magazine .
From what I understand the 3PAR allocates , with SparingAlgorithm : Minimal
, The space equivalent to the biggest disc present in the cage to be used as hot spare space to perform a fast rebuild in case of rupture of a disc.
Inside the cpg I created a virtual volume of 2.2 TB using all the available space and presented to my hosts file.

So my question is as follows:

How many disks can be broken , not simultaneously , before lose all the data?
In case of failure of a disk on a 3PAR the rebuild of the CPG should start using the spare space .
Correct?
If the rebuild is successful , given that cpg is set in a raid 5 you can still break a disk before losing all your data ?

Correct?

Thanks

The simpel answer is: Yes, and you can keep doing that until you totally run out of space. it will even grab space from other tiers if it has to, to survive.
