I know HPE provides a service for this using Blancco software/appliance.

The quick and simple answer.

Find a server with a set of supported HBAs to connect directly to the 3PAR backend.
Procure and install Blancco licenses.
Run the process
Extract the certificates.

I saw the HPE pricing for doing this once. I don’t recall the exact amount but as we didn’t have a server with the required HBAs the cost for the service was less than getting the required hardware… and then we didn’t even take into account the licenses and the time we would spend doing it ourselves.

So if you only have one system, I would consider going down that route. It will provide certificates as well.

Hi, I also used Blancco, but it is complex in licensing and very expensive.
So, I did Erase the other with Active KillDisk, which also generates a Certificate and is 10x cheaper.

My Way:
First I delete all Volumes and CPGs and then create a Raid 1 CPG with only big FullProv R1 Volumes until all Data is occupied.
This will max reduce the Data to delete.
I attach a Windows Server with FC direct connect to the 3PAR and let KillDisk/Blancco run.

I would question the value of a certificate with that type of wipe.... As the server will not see the physical disk it would not be able to produce a certificate for those, and that is usually the only thing that counts when certificates are required. I would also question how that would work for SSDs (as they have additional capacity which are available when cells die off) and it would require you to remove all spare chunklets before making VVs as those parts of the drives would also contain data if there ever was a disk failure in the system.

You could pull all drives, remove the drive carriers, install in a server and then run KillDisk/Blancco/<insert random software> and get certificates for the physical disks.

I checked my old emails and with currency conversion I believe the HPE service was in the area of 3k$ for a system with close to 200 PDs..... so if time is money... I called that a bargin back then... If I was wiping 10 arrays, I would have gotten the hardware to do it myself.

Usually, you present the Volumes to the Windows Server with the Erase Software.
Maybe this is not 100%, but for every of my Customer, it was good enough.
You can do also a Wipe in the 3PAR Serial CLI, but without any Certificate.
The question is, how far will you go, next step is to destroy physically the Disks.
