We currently have a 4 year old 7200c with 73 GiB
8 x 1.92 TB SSDs
24 x 1.2 TB 10k drives
12 x 4 TB 7.2k drives (LFF)
with 4 cages

we are still on 3.2.2.709+ (upgraded code in December 2018)

My plan is is go down to just the base shelf and keep the 8 SSDs and 16 1.2 TB 10k drives.
This will give me more than enough LAB capacity (RAID 5 on the SSDs and RAID 10 on the 10ks) and should be plenty fast over 10gig iSCSI.
Also hoping to upgrade to 3.3.1.
We still have support for 1 more year from 3par.

Should I keep more than just the base shelf? Or keep all of the SFF drives (8 + 24) and keep 1 expansion shelf?

Will 3par support help in retiring this from production and moving from a physical SP to a virtual ?

Is 3.3.1 on a 7200c a good idea. I don't plan on using dedupe or compression.

Thanks
Z

HPE support usually is pretty good in these situations.
They have helped me dismiss disks from a shelf, assisting with all the commands to move chunklets.
And on another system they helped me run-reun OOB process.
