One of the 8200 has already had 3+1 year on it and now the price to renew 2 years is 50% of the system price.
Because years 5/6 get very expensive apparently.
The advise we received is to buy a new array with 4 years straight up.
I always recommend 5 years up-front for storage.
As soon as your environment gets a tiny bit complicated, your migration costs increase dramatically.
Remember that even if you are going to replace it now, you still need to have two systems running (and on support) during the migration period. The only thing that come close to storage migration on the "pain in the ass" scale is core switch replacement, which I why I tend to size core switches with 7 to 10 year life span.
In your calculations where 2 years extension = 50% of system price, does the system price include installation and migration cost to the new system?
