Post subject: | HPE 3PAR 7400 SED Hard Drive Issue |
Hi all First time posting here, hoping someone can help I've recently aquired some 1TB 2.5" 7.2K NL hard drives that are SED enabled for my HPE 3PAR 7400 4-Node Array. When I insert them into the shelves they show the following error: Id CagePos Type -State-- -----------Detailed_State----------- ------SedState------- --- 0:0:0 unknown failed vacated,invalid,read_capacity_failed owned_by_other_system --- 2:0:0 unknown failed vacated,invalid,read_capacity_failed owned_by_other_system The "owned_by_other_system" is obviously the issue. I've searched Google and cannot find anything to suggest how to reset the drives. The only thing I've found is this HPE support article that states "Remove this drive from the system, or contact your authorized support provider to reset this drive to a factory-default state." https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public ... cale=en_US So it does look like you can "factory-reset" the hard drives encryption state or some how reset the system owner for the hard drives but I'm a bit stumped now as to how Can anyone help? Thanks Andy Release version 3.2.1 (MU5) Patches: P49,P53,P59,P70,P71 Component Name Version CLI Server 3.2.1 (P71) CLI Client 3.2.1 System Manager 3.2.1 (P71) Kernel 3.2.1 (MU5) TPD Kernel Code 3.2.1 (MU5) TPD Kernel Patch 3.2.1 (P71) |

I would be more worried about "unknown". Seems to indicate that your current OS doesn't have firmware for the drives. I think showpd -i will tell you the model number. |

Hi there Thanks for replying. This is the command output for showpd -i --- 0:0:0 failed 5000C5006307A8B0 SEAGATE SAWK1000S5xnE7.2 9XG80YGG 3P00 SAS -- ----------------------- --- 2:0:0 failed 5000C500630871A0 SEAGATE SAWK1000S5xnE7.2 9XG808WK 3P00 SAS -- ----------------------- I have 48 of these drives and all of the turn to green and orange when inserted into the array. I know they are all ok becuase we have a testing rig that is plugged into some data wiping software called WhiteCannon... It's just a 3.5" and 2.5" M6710 and M6720 SAS Expansion shelf that plugs into the wiping server via a SAS HBA... When the drives are in the 2.5" chassis linked to the wiping rig, the White Cannon wiping software picks up the drives fine and wipes them with no S.M.A.R.T or bad sectors errors reported. This makes me think these drives need "factory-defaulting" some how as they still have the old system details embedded on them from the system they were pulled out of before i got my hands on them. Thanks Andy |

Hmm, those drives should be supported from 3.1.2 MU2 What happens if you do admithw? What I wonder is what the wiping tool does/did. And if the drives had encryption enabled on the old array... Maybe some commands in the CLI reference guide could help.. Remember that 3PAR needs drives to be formatted with 520bytes sectors. |

Did you fix the issue with drives displaying owned_by_other_system? |

Sadly not, we sent them back to the supplier in the end. |
