The other day I had to offline an FC port (controlport offline 2:0:2) and then put it back online (controlport rst 2:0:2) when troubleshooting an issue with HPE support. When I looked in vmware I saw all those paths marked as dead. Is this expected? I thought the partner node would assume the identity of the offline port and vmware would barely notice anything or does port failover only happen on a node restart? Thanks |

I can't find the mail, but I've been caught out by that before. You are correct that offlining the port doesn't make it failover to the partner. I'm sure HPE told me you need initiate a failover on the port if you want to do it a controlled manor like you what. Obviously if you pull the FC cable out that would work, but if you're not at the site that could be a problem. |

after a bit of google, i think the command you needed was controlport failover <node:slot:port> before taking the port offline And i think controlport failback brings it back |
