Post subject: | CPG raid 5 set size 7+1 |
We have 8 cages,128 drives (600Gb FC) in 3Par F400 array and all space is free. We want to create CPG raid5 7+1 on all disks and availability cage. But we have error messages: no available space for given (invalid?) parameters. CPG created only raid5 3+1 with availability cage or any raid5 with availability magazine. How to create raid5 7+1 with availability cage in our configurations? |

I got the same error message when tried creating a RAID6 CPG. My issue was that on the Allocation settings - shown only when you check the 'Advanced Settings Option' , the Availability was set to Cage (default) In this case the Inserv did not had enough cages (shelves) to satisfy the raid size which is 10=8+2. When I changed the availabilty to Magazine I could proceed creating my desired CPG. |

Failed to create Raid 5 7+1, because a have 4 controllers. 2 controllers connected to 4 cages (daisy chained) and another 2 controllers connected to another 4 cages. In this configurations not permitted create Raid 5 7+1 |

I don't think anything is "daisy chained", I suspect what you meant is 4 shelves are attached to 2 controllers, and the other 4 shelves are attached to the other 2 controllers. The best "cage availability" you can do will be raid5 3+1. But you should still be able to do 7+1 with "mag availability". In my environment I use cage availability for production and magazine availability for dev/stage and qa. --Richard |
