Ok, so our main Problem:

Volume exported to SQL1 and SQL2 (same volume)
Copy exported to SQL1 and SQL2

in MPIO i see 4 Active and 4 Standby paths. Thats good i think.
On SQL1 the disk is active, on SQL2 it Shows reserved.

When we perform a Cluster Switch from SQL1 Server to SQL2 server, you should see the disks go offline on SQL1 and go online on SQL2 within a few seconds.
Sometimes, it really runs into a timeout after 15 MINUTES..only the disk Change!! And i don´t have a clue where to look anymore. HPE says, everything is finde on their end/system, so not very helpful :(

It worked a few months ago, but of course no one knows of any changes made. The amount of disks (at least 30 exported) could be a matter?

Ah can't help much with the Windows cluster side of things alas.

Assume both servers see the same set of active/standby paths and both servers have the same bandwidth to both arrays (i.e. cross site links aren't wet string)?

Do you have other clusters that still work or are they all broken?

In theory cluster switch should have no effect on array volume access, the exact same paths should be used by either server and you should be able to remove the 'copy' paths and the rcopy setup with no effect on cluster access and switching. Certainly that's how we've seen it in the past with an old Win 2008 cluster.

If both servers can access a LUN from both arrays all should be good, if that's all working then something like a windows hotfix missing maybe.

One of the most used sentences in IT: It should work

Anyway, maybe a Windows update/hotfix crashed whatever, in february we are getting a 3par Firmware upgrade, maybe that will help :(

Thank you for your time guys, i really appreciate it!

I think i see sth.

on Subsystem 001 i see the following System ports for this volume:
0:0:1, 0:0:2, 1:0:1, 1:0:2

the remote side has the following ports for the copied volume:
0:0:1, 0:0:2, 1:0:1, 1:0:2, 2:0:1, 2:0:2, 3:0:1, 3:0:2

So there are four more ports in use?!

When i look at the 4 more ports, they are not "connected" to the SQL host.

Maybe over complicating things here, personally I'd take it back to basics. Use a non mirrored LUN exported to both servers from one array and check the cluster switch works.

As to the port/path thing what's the output for the following command from both arrays?
Code:
showvlun -v <volume name>

Okay so the Volume is exported to sq3, sq4 & sq5 (all three hosts in the same cluster?), each host has 4 paths from each array and all on LUN 12.

It appears sq3 is zoned to ports on nodes 2 & 3 but sq4 & sq5 are zoned to ports on nodes 0 & 1. If all three hosts are in the same cluster it might be best to stick to the same node pairs but I'm not sure that in itself would break stuff however I've always done it that way for consistency.

Yes, SQ3 4 and 5 are in one Cluster and should share the same disks. The node port Thing is sth. that has to be managed via SAN zoning right?

One more question please

I Export one volume over 4 paths, and the remote copy over 4 paths too.
I start a Windows Installation to the Point where i have to select the disk i want to install Windows on. How many disks do i have to see?
8 because MPIO is not working in this state?

Yes typically this will be SAN zoning.

Not sure, I don't do server installs anymore ;) , I've seen Windows only display first few disks before and I know I've been asked to take SAN LUNs away from other OS servers during install as they got confused. :?

I'd expect at least 4, maybe 8 but the other 4 will be read only so OS install might not know what to do with them. :)

Hopefully some with more physical Windows will be able to clarify. ;)
