Hi

Could anyone explain what exactly "System" is in this graph from SSMC?

That's almost 15% of the allocated capacity?

Thanks
Michel

Usually that's mostly spare capacity and some space is used for system reporter logging and other system data.

Also keep in mind that's Allocated not Total capacity so it doesn't take into account Free space. It's just showing the percentage of what the system has reserved vs what you have reserved. If you look at the whole picture including free space then system space will be a smaller overall percentage - unless that is you only have a very small system.

You can get a better idea of how things are allocated by using cli% showsys -space

System space should remain relatively static and would typically only increase if more spare space were needed.

I'm worried that it keeps growing...
Even on total capacity it's more than 10%...

Yes, it's spare.

System : 4609024
Internal : 234496
Spare : 4374528
Used : 0
Unused : 4374528

So this is the space it needs when a disk fails to do a rebuild, right?

All good then :) Thanks (We have 24x 1.92 TB drives)

Default:
roughly 2.5 percent with minimums
Small configurations (e.g. 8000’s with less than 48 disks, 20000’s with less than 80 disks) have a spare space target equal to the size of two of the largest drives of the type being spared.
